    Or the alternative scenario, in which it’s a big winner and a legal tussle ensues in which the given insists on getting a cut. That can almost be worse than a losing ticket. I heard once of a daughter who sued her mother because she gave the mother a lottery ticket that turned out to be worth millions, and decided she deserved some of the money. It can get ugly.

    There was a story in the news where someone won 1 million he got in a get well card.
