The whole concept of “the customer is always right” had nothing to do with insane demands. It basically said “if customers are buying chocolate and vanilla, don’t stock strawberry.”
The saying is actually “the customerS ARE always right.” In other words, it doesn’t apply to individual greed, it applies to the masses. So if customers are boycotting your store, fix the reason for it ASAP. If nobody’s buying an item, don’t keep stocking it. The idea is meant to be “To stay in business, listen to your patrons.” And yet entitled Karens and Aarons bring it up to get their way when they know they’re in the wrong.
