There was an episode of KOLCHAK with the woman who played Angelique on DARK SHADOWS pretty much playing that same role again albeit at a high fashion salon. Her preferred weapon was animating mannequins, and having them turn their heads to look at their intended victim built up the suspense and did make them much creepier.
I wonder if that episode is uploaded to you tube. Have to check it out. I’ve been a Dark Shadows fan all my life and it’s a shame Lara Parker (Angelique) didn’t get too many roles after the show. She was really fantastic as Angelique!
Glad to see someone type it out as “mannequin” instead of using “manikin”. Although now I’m reminded that I can’t remember the last time I saw “barbecue” or “doughnut” on a sign anywhere.
I was always just annoyed that the mannequins were really close to my size back then, but none of the items in the store were meant to fit them properly (even the smallest sizes available), so they were all pinned and clipped to give them the ideal fit and look.
I’m more bothered by the ones with the featureless heads. I keep expecting they’ll become Autons.

Easier to dress the headless ones
Wasn’t this a Chris episode of FAMILY GUY?
