Let’s see!
V: “What kind of things?” (3)
C: “You know… things you use.”
V: “Use for what purpose?” (4)
C: “Like crafts and such.”
V: “What type of crafts?” (5)
C: “Do you know what crafts are?”
V: “I do, but what kind? Fabric? Tongue depressors? Pipe cleaners?” (6)
C: “No… I don’t think it’s any of that. It’s something from TV.”
V: “What channel?” (7)
C: “Huh?”
V: “I asked what channel.” (8)
C: “Why does that matter?”
V: “Do you not see that I’m trying to help you and you’re giving me nothing to go on?” (9)
C: “Huh?”
V: “What kind of show was it on? Or was it a commercial for something? Anything you recall will help me help you.” (10)
C: “How would I remember that?”
V: “So you could give me information so I know what you’re talking about?” (11)
C: “Do you have someone knowledgeable I can speak to?”
V: “Nobody who could help you more than I can.”
…yeah, I can’t see this quite getting to 20 questions before the discussion devolves in some way. Why don’t people understand the basic “help me help you” mantra?
Fabric; the customer is asking for fabric. And it IS sold in some department stores in different malls. I’ve seen it in the South as well as England. So it’s not a ridiculous ask. Usually it’s near homewares.
Never gotten there but I sometimes wonder what would happen if I get through all 20 questions and still don’t know what they want.

Yes, exactly. I am re-reading the strip and always wondered why no one “got” this one!
