A lot of the time managers take the same attitude as Cooper.
In fact, at Wickes the phrase he used was “I don’t want to hear of anyone accepting tips, it’s against store policy”
“What should I do with this tip then”
“I don’t want to HEAR of anyone accepting tips”
I only had a few people even offer tips, usually around Christmas time when helping them load their live tree. The only way I was “allowed” to accept it was if they literally shoved it into my apron pocket.
I once worked at a place where not only were the employees not supposed to accept tips, if you were caught with cash on you (eg a dollar from a tip) they’d assume you had stolen it out of the till, and haul you to the office and count your cash drawer.
… and a bonus isn’t a gratuity?
Only a dollar? Cheapskate.
