Back in 2016 I needed work (semi-retired) and applied with a large cloud backup company as a customer service rep. I swore I would never work for a call center, but it was available and paid pretty well. To be charitable about it, that was the most soul-withering job I have ever done in my life, very much like retail without the stocking and re-folding and cleanup. Nothing but irritated custys one after another, and tyrannical morons for management. I will never do that again.
I once had a job where I fielded customer support calls (though that responsibility had not be revealed during the interview). After finishing one of the calls, I lamented out loud “Why are all our customers idiots?” Then I realized if they hadn’t been idiots, they wouldn’t have been our customers.
The absolutely, utterly, sickeningly *worst* job I ever had was trying to hawk giveaways for charitable donations over the phone, for a CONTRACTOR for the charity in question. I was relieved when they fired me.
