At the grocery store I work at we used to get a visit between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year from some of the vice presidents. We would spend hours getting the whole store looking perfect. They would spend 5-10 minutes walking the perimeter and walk out. They stopped doing it about 6 years ago.
When I worked at Wal-Mart some dude from corporate was coming in once. So they had about six of us pull all the flour and sugar off the shelves to clean and shine them, because that was supposed to be one of his pet peeves. Guy got there and didn’t even look at them.
I can’t stress enough how true all of this is.
The world of retail work is utterly baffling to those who have never worked in retail.
It’s not much more sensible for those who have.

I remember the VP touring the store via webcam once. Technology is both such a blessing and a curse!
I think this is the only time Marla’s mom is the logical one in the conversation.
