Yup. Seen it done with Peace Tea more than once. I buy two flavours’ worth of cans, and they only logged one SKU for all of the flavours on the chain’s system. At least for a year or two. I *think* that’s been fixed.
Not necessarily. I was once tasked with re-ordering wall block that came in gray, rose brown and tan. The computer said there were 1000 rose brown and 25 tan. I did a physical count and, guess what? There were 0 rose brown and 1500 tan. When the blocks got wet it was hard to distinguish the rose brown from the tan and since there are no bar codes on block the cashier had to guess which one it was. Guess how much shrink that would have been if I hadn’t caught and got it fixed. Not to mention all those unhappy customers who came to the store after checking the web site to find we had 1000 rose brown block when we didn’t have any.
Love it when we see Cooper being actually really good at his job… and Stuart having to see him being really good at his job. It’s always fun seeing the jerk eat crow.
Computers may eventually be up to the task of managing inventory. But as long as there is human input it’s not going to work.
Human input does include manually ringing things up when something “must be free.” Good luck getting rid of that part.
Which we saw they sometimes do by ringing up a different, but equally priced item. No wonder the count is off.

I think it’s more the human output that’s the problem. as in, the items walk output the door …Computer only knows what it’s told, not what reality is.
