Honesty is the best strategy with management. You don’t want to work, then don’t, but if it matters that your hours don’t get cut you can’t do it all the time. It’s give and take. Unless the manager is super petty it means little to them if you don’t take every shift offered. They’ll understand you have a life outside of work even in a retail environment.
